I run regular in-depth weaving workshops in my east London studio. They’re suitable for both beginners and experienced weavers, but ideal for those who want to learn how to weave detailed and complex imagery.
Prior to the class I contact each participant and discuss with them what they want to weave. I’ll give them in-depth feedback on how to design their tapestry and prepare for the class. They’ll receive a downloadable PDF with more information about tapestry weaving.
During the class itself each student plans out their design further , chooses their colour scheme and begins transforming their design into woven tapestry. We’ll be working with a variety of yarns and fibres and learning the same processes and techniques that I use in my own work every day. We’ll also cover general principles for the structure and construction of tapestry weaving and students will be shown how to apply these in their work in the future. There will be plenty of time for one-on-one teaching as well as opportunities for me to answer any weaving questions. Students also get to have a look behind the scenes at my weaving studio and see my work being made.
Each participant goes home with their own loom, wool, weaving tools and instruction booklet, with all the information they need to keep going with weaving! Tea, coffee & pastries are served during the class, and lunch is also provided.
