In the workshop you will learn how to completely cover the warp with the weft and weave neat, straight edges. We’ll look at combining different yarns to create colour blends, create patterns using hatching and pick-and-pick, and weave shapes.
The goal of the workshop is for you to try as many techniques as possible and create a tapestry “sampler”, rather than weave a specific image.
Instruction will be given on how to take your tapestry off the loom at the end of the class, but you are not expected to completely finish your tapestry in the workshop.
There will be plenty of time for one-on-one teaching as well as opportunities for Christabel to answer any weaving questions.
-
The workshop will take place at Make Town in Hackney, East London.
The venue is a short walk up from Cambridge Heath and Bethnal Green stations. Street parking is available in the neighbourhood.
-
The workshop begins at 10:30 and finishes at 4:30. Doors will open at 10:20. Please make sure you arrive in time for the workshop to begin.
We will have a short break for lunch at 1pm. Students are encouraged to bring lunch or to pop out and purchase something locally (We highly recommend the sandwiches and pastries from Forno!)
Tea, coffee & pastries will be provided throughout.
We will be in touch in advance of the class to confirm all details and to check if you have any dietary requirements.
